Please join me in the contemplation
Framing the journey of our people
As starting from our inter webbed present
We recall 'the Global Village' phrase
Prompted by transistor radio's global reach
A first the 1960-ties claimed back then
But what of the telegraph and phone?
Or of the tiny ships that sailed the Seven Seas
For spice routes and unknown shores?
Explorers who, instead of empty lands found
Peopled cultures with long pedigrees
On all five continents with scripts, records,
laws and beliefs, strange and yet compelling.
Yet further back we reach today to origins
When the first humans left their cradle
To populate earth's furthest reaches
already forty thousand years ago
This very first globalisation is news to us today
And brings us face to face with humans
Whose roots we share, whose journey shaped us
How do we continue and in what way?
