2013-05-30; 8:53am, Thursday. Overcast with rain and mild. Diary: Corpus Christi, journey with Don and calling my sister. ~~The meaning of ‘Corpus Christi’ is considered, I describe my trip with Don, a coffee visit with John and call my sister for her birthday.~~ Today is ‘Corpus Christi’ on the Catholic calendar, but I have no idea what that designation means. There is a place in old Mexico, now Texas, that bears this name, but as they say these days: ‘Just Google it’. Or, as I often do, look it up in the dictionary, which is ‘on’ all the time and consumes no power. On Tuesday Don came by to pick me up for our trip to Lacombe and Ponoka, where we visited the cemetery near Pine Lake, the Ellis bird farm and the ‘Coptic Books’ shop in Ponoka in that order. The weather was just right with showers while we had lunch or were driving! The lunch as the Ellis’ was very good and the gift shop with the info center interesting. They had just received the data [www.ellisbirdfarm.ab.ca] on the yearly trek of the Purple Martin of the swallow family. It flies from the Yukon to the Amazon delta for its seasonal journey, averaging about 250km per day and that for a bird not much bigger than a good sized human thumb! Nature has its surprises and we humans are a part of that too! Don and I returned at around six pm after a day of good companionship and enjoying the wonders at our doorstep. Also included - for the record - were some discussions about human social affairs and convictions such as fundamentalism and our view of Islam; not that Don and I are in full agreement, but both of us ‘think on such things’. My leg is better, but I am not sure it is travel ready. I was hoping to visit Derrick, but I will wait for the opinion of my physio man. I did visit John yesterday without relying on the cane and that went fine, but later in the day I got some cramps, which are still lingering today. I decided to hold off on my exercises for the moment and just maintain my daily affairs. It is time [9:22am] to call my Sis, for her birthday (75) tomorrow. And now it is 10:11am after a long and animated discussion. Tomorrow Els will celebrate with our siblings, without me, with coffee and a lunch at the castle of Vaassen, a bit north of Apeldoorn, NL. And in my absence I will be remembered by means of a toast! Maybe next year we can be all together; we’ll see. Writings: None. ~~None.~~
