2013-10-30; 9:13am, Wednesday. Sunny and cold, a little bit. Diary: Seniors afternoon tea and cultural night. ~~The seniors Tea was a very lively affair and new to me, but promising for multicultural contacts. The Dolce Vita movie as a CPO event ws more surprise than entertainment.~~ Last night was ‘Dolce Vita’ night at the Engineered Air theatre. Shirley and I watched this late 1950-ties black and white, slowly paced movie, which shows the disorientation in Italian society at the time. Disorientation has always been an asset of that society, but with a WW2 defeat behind them and an unformed Europe in front, the questioning of values came natural. That is what the movie shows, but having no answers itself leaves the viewer disoriented as well. This was probably exactly the objective of the famous director Federico Fellini. The Baraka café has seized operations, which is a loss the general public that wants to have some amicable and reasonably prices facility for repose in that neighbourhood. Hopefully they will reopen, but I have my doubts. The Epcor people probably raised the rent to get more income and of course, Baraka also competitor with the bars operating within the theatre venues. The Seniors Tea in the afternoon turned out to be a very lively affair, with about twenty five participants from various countries, as this is an immigrant type gathering. I was the must senior as immigrant, since most had come from Asia in the 1990-ties. It is a very interesting and diverse group of people and the activities are like wise. I have already two ‘ethnic’ festivals scheduled, the Hindu ‘Dilawi’ festival and the Chinese Traditions afternoon, November 5 and 4 respectively. Writings: Existence Divine as the Discoverable Unknown. ~~I continue with the theme of the last few days and introduce a new insight about describing Existence Divine~~ I am continuing with the thread of the last few days and with some of this mornings thought: Existence is basically chaotic within in which every thing that can exist, does exist. In this existence we humans discover some order, device the rules for ethics and slowly construct a reference frame work for our experience world in the realm of humanity. Humans developed concepts and ideas in this construction process. For example, Plato thought that the stars were the souls of the departed and in Antiquity it was an accepted truth that the light with which we see emits from our eyes. At that time some people did know that the world was a sphere, but no one knew how big until Eratosthenes first measurement in Egypt along the Nile around 203BC. Existence at that time was considered to be part profane and part sacred, with the sacred including the various ’Divine powers’ as causal agents of many events. The idea of the Divine or the Holy has undergone many changes with time, sometimes represented as a animated object such as the sun, some times as a personified such as a creating animal or human person and finally, also as an impersonal, but present acting power. The Divine as ‘the discoverable unknown’, is a description that occurred to me just this morning. This description is flexible enough to accommodate the various forms in which the divine has been experienced by humans in the recorded multitude of revelations. It also references the idea that human consciousness is limited in what it knows and can know. Furthermore, it emphasizes that much remains to be discovered and that this unknowness is a remaining component of our framework of reference that should not be ignored on pain of introducing a systemic bias. <10:08am~
