Diary: Ken visit beer talk and cleanup:

~~Liala and I visit Ken in his care-home, Shirley and I have a long beer talk, I visit Knox and get ready for cleanup.~~

This morning I shopped some at Safeway and waved to Ina who was waiting at the bus stop as I walked back home. There I started organising stuff for the planned ‘cleanup’ and take away by John as he plans to stop by around 11:30am. Having such a target time motivates me to get going on this chore, yet a very useful and rewarding activity.

Last Tuesday Lila came by to pick me up for a visit to Ken Mayer who is in a 24-hour care home after his stroke last summer. The hoe is located along 162nd Ave and hard to reach without a car. Ken was glad to see at once he realised who we were - friends form our Palliser CLEC Sunday group and our former dentist as well.

Ken introduced us to many people in his home and is clearly well known. So, we had a good visit, but when we were leaving he wanted to come with us and got a bit angry when it became clear to him he could not. This left Liala and me a bit sad, even thought I found this visit much better than the one last fall with Jack.

Yesterday I visited Knoxb as now has become a habit for me and an ‘anchor’ activity.

Yesterday I visited Knox as now has become a habit for me and an ‘anchor’ activity. In the evening Shirley and I met at James on 4th at seven pm, had some beer and snacks, talked for hours until about 11:30pm! But … we never said a word about the big flood of 2013! We did explore human existence, religion, personal experiences and reconciliation with our parents even so late in our lives!

I received an email from Jeltsje in Apeldoorn and I finally had the courage to reply as she was very close to my late sister Els. I had difficulties to reply to her earlier as I missed Els especially on May 31, her birth date. Now this resistance has been overcome; no more birthday phone calls, which makes me sad still.

This week also has me gathering info on funeral services and their costs. John made an actual visit to one last week and maybe we will try one or two during Stampede week! Those ‘homes’ should not be too busy at that time.

My Friday lunch with Herman got moved as his car - Dodge Spirit! - is in for major repairs. Coming Friday is Stampede Parade day which Herman always watches at the Palliser, so that may be out as well for our lunch.
<10:33am, break for early lunch.
