First entry for September! It is still summer, but with the ‘R’ in the month we know that summer is coming to its close, but without seasons earth would be a very different place to live on and at. So we accept and celebrate the cycles of the seasons that the inclined earth gives us.
“Tax the bags” could be our battle cry! [To fight plastics pollution.]
This morning I was out grocery shopping already, as it is discount Tuesday at Safeway. In its produce section I noticed eggplants, each individually wrapped in plastic! This makes them last longer I was told, while increasing the profits along the way I added. It also increases the plastic pollution load that the taxpayer needs to confront. This opens up the view that plastics use should be taxed with a surcharge like we do air, land and water pollution. “Tax the bags” could be our battle cry! This maybe a working distraction for the oil pipeline protesters in BC!
I added my own wisdom by noting that Herman and I combined aim and way to build our friendship …
At the Calgary Life Enrichment Centre (CLEC) yesterday we celebrated Herman’s 85th birthday. We signed the card I had bought and sang happy birthday. Privately I had bought my friend a personal card too with a quote by Waldo Emerson. I added my own wisdom by noting that Herman and I combined aim and way to build our friendship over the years, since 2000.
Elisabeth gave me a ride from there and we decided to go to Sunterra in Strathcona, which has a nice patio. So we did, enjoying our lunch and our friendship while warmed by the sun. This was followed by a drive through car wash at West Hills, after which Elisabeth drove me home. Thanks Elisabeth for this nice and welcome break from my regular routine.
This aft I will make a second grocery shopping trip to make use of the offered 15% discount, though I do notice that prices have gone up again over the last two years, when Safeway cum Sobeys waged a low price campaign as they were in trouble loosing market share at that time. At the bottom of this was the bungled transition of a take over of the Safeway chain by Sobeys. Evidence of that east and west problem and disparity that crops up every now and then, in Canada as well as in the States.
