Diary: Missing entries month:

~~This month is marked by a lack of daily entries, but I manage to recount some of the outstanding events, thanks in part to some hand notes on my wall calendars!~~

No entry for 27 days. Back then John’s birthday dinner was cancelled on account of the snow fall of 30+ cm, but nice weather returned around the seventeenth. So we have had a late fall weather treat, but the usual colour display was gone by the time the weather turned. However, I still managed to take a few nice shots. Metta’s birthday had very nice weather as a result which is very unusual at the 20th of October and he had good weather too being in Victoria turning fifty. My card arrived on time!

Since my last entry I read two books by , his new “Identity” and the older “Origins of Political Order”. The latter I just finished a few days ago, both offering good insights in our global political scene right now. I have ordered “Political Order and Decay”, which is the follow up to Fukuyama’s ‘Origins’ and deals with the period from the French Revolution to the present - looking forward to that one!

Last Thursday Shirley and I took in ‘Mary and Max’ a musical presented by Theatre Calgary. Well presented and challenging to watch and follow. The story line is of a young girl bullied for a forehead birthday mark and practically treated as a nuisance by her parents as she was ‘an accident’! Though residing in Australia she starts a correspondence with a middle aged man who has ‘Asperser Syndrome and lives in New York City. They never do meet, but the adapted play’s story line is acceptable never the less. Well done I’d say, though Shirley had her misgivings for personal reasons.

Last Saturday I took part in a session called “Think That” at ShelfLifeBooks from 10 to 12noon. The book under discussion was “The Patch” which inferred the ‘Calgary Oil Patch’. A quite general discussion followed centering on pollution, global warming, our responsibility and response as oil users. Very topical and a searching exchange in an attempt to formulate a role and attitude for the regular consumer of gas and plastics! It was a first time visit for me and I enjoyed the meeting the exchange of views and my discussion afterwards with Anne, a biotechnical engineer.

The market was small, but active except for the last half year and always pleasant to visit being not too commercialised.

The rest of my long daily entry was filled with the usual activities, except that Don and I made our last visit to the Kingsland cum McLeod market last Friday 19th. Don and I met there since the Spring of 2008, with for me by transit since 2015 and Don giving me a ride home! The market was small, but active except for the last half year and always pleasant to visit being not too commercialised.

My friend Elisabeth is in India since the middle of this month and I my Dutch friend Jeltsje is headed for Egypt again in a week or so. I am staying put, but had two trips last year on account of my late sister Els. Her passing a year ago is coming up this November 18, so quick already, as I have made my adjustments to her absence throughout the year gone by. Something to think about!
