Working late a bit yet on my website, after the Herman’s class, I discovered that I had a ‘lost’ or forgotten little essay titled ‘Beyond Beliefs’ in support of that so named talk of August in 2010. I printed it off and became quite surprised as I read it. It anticipates several concepts I am working on today, but now in a more defined manner. This latter in that I now have a goal and action in mind that would work in that direction, realising such ideas.
I am thinking here of activities we could pursue in our society to foster integration and acceptance of differences in identities and traditions. This could be the sharing ethnic foods and recipes, along with celebrating each others significant holidays and adding to this some storey telling about one‘s tradition. This could be supplemented with some type of seminars or easy instruction, supported by a resource centre.
I remind myself of the Old Roman adage of ‘bread and games’ for the people and the Old Greeks motivation for having the ‘Olympic games’, which we resurrected in 1896.
I also made a new affirmation for myself, with which to start the day and keep close. Here it is:
“I am a dedicated participant in Existence Divine informed by my tradition [of upbringing] and with all my ability.”
I am a dedicated participant in Existence Divine informed by my tradition [of upbringing] and with all my ability.
I feel I have to add some thing about being ethically responsible, because some traditions are not always open to that. However, that may just have to be accepted as a part of existence.
Another aspect is the uniqueness of our existence as humans in our own realm, which is just a part of ‘Existence Divine’. We, as humans are making our own contribution and should remain ‘true’ this ‘raison d’etre’, this reason for being.
Time to get ready for my coffee visit.<9:07am~
