Yesterday was filled with birthday events. Tineke called around lunch and we chatted for about an hour about personal and family affairs both ways. A bit after two o’clock Shirley joined me and treated me to tea up the street, a new place with a relaxed setting. Shirley had a blast of a birthday card for me, which I should scan in, because it hard to explain. She told me about her trip to Europe and her family there.
After the two hour tea it was high time to get ready for my meet with John at five for dinner. This took us to the Koi’s which is away from the downtown after work loudness. Every one was sitting out along Stephen Avenue Mall, enjoying the exceptional summer day.
John and I chatted mainly about family, work and I related my discovered ‘life journey’ that I wrote about yesterday. John also brought his and Tammy’s present in the form of two fine theatre tickets for September to an intriguing show.
In the evening I called Derrick back, because I had to cut his earlier call short. He too was celebrating, since the last hurdle of his summer study programme is now behind him, which will be celebrated in the bar later today. The practicum coordinator gave him a very encouraging card regarding his present retraining initiative and personal re-orientation. All in all as dramatic a midlife restructuring as I have seen or experienced and I have told him as much.
The day was almost over by this time and since I had posted the Birthday daily entry just after noon, I was ready to check in for the night, which I did.
ShelfLifeBooks called the day before that the copy of ‘The Zealot’ for Juliette is in. And with that my entry is finished for today.
