Yesterday was labour day in the Canadian tradition, signifying the going back to school, college and the work place. It was a very nice weekend weather wise, as all of August has been.
Last Sunday at Hermans’ talk we celebrated his eightieth birthday, which was yesterday. It just strikes me now that no one thought of singing the happy birthday song! I think this was due to Herman and his visitor, Dick Coldwell, isolating themselves for quite a while. Attendance was quite good at a dozen all told and Judith had brought a few cakes for the occasion.
I put together the description for my November 24th talk titled “My Belief as Practice”. This will be the concluding presentation in this year’s series of four talks on ‘My Belief’ and it consists of two parts.
One is its collective or social aspects, addressing our common human situation, while the other outlines a perspective for the individual human being within the human realm. My aim is to formulate a few practical aspects for our newly globalised society, while continuing from the traditions that lie behind us.
For last Saturday I had been invited for the farewell dinner of Sarah’s parents. BJ’s Dad was also there, as were Heinz and his wife, so we had quite a lively group, entertained by little Alec and enhanced by Fred who showed for dessert.
I had bought a little book on Alberta cowboy cooking, spiced with tales of the West. The recipes are for Sarah’s Mom and the tales for her Dad, all with illustrations!
While in the relating book store I also picked up a copy of ‘My Husband and My Wives’ by Beye. In it, the author relates his life story growing up and later on living as a bi-sexual male, even though he avoids giving himself that label. The jury is still out, but the start features various tales about boyhood sex.
