Yesterday I was up at 4:45am to watch the man’s hockey final, between Sweden and Canada. The game was not well matched, as the Swedes had three of there top guys out on injuries and one on drugs. The score was 3 to 0 for our guys, who showed no mercy. An interesting a side is that all but one of all the players, also play under contract with the NHL. That is national as in Canadian National, but most people do not know that and it would only upset the South states.
After the game, the closing ceremonies started at about 9:14am here and 20:14 in Sochi! This show was as impressive as the opening and three Russian crowded the last medal platform of the games for the 50km cross country sky event. A worthy close for ‘al Russi’, after their heart breaking early elimination from the hockey competition.
The chairman of the International Olympic committee, Mr. Bach, praised Russia for delivering on all its promises. At long last, even the Western media chimed in, finally. They had started off with an over critical and gloomy reporting style and content, resurrecting the old cold war lamentations here in North ‘AmiCan‘.
I missed going to my regular Palliser meeting with my friends, but once in the four years is less than an exception. It is a singularity! In the afternoon I joined Elisabeth and her son to take in James Bond music at the Singer Hall of the Performing Arts Centre. Very popular, but a very different audience from the Philharmonic kind.
This was due in part to the gambling event that went on in the lobby before hand. We were purposely delayed for fifteen minutes from entering the performance hall to get people to gamble longer. The event was staged by the Calgary Civic Symphony Organisation and was probably meant as an undercover fundraiser, as their grants have been reduced.
On Saturday I finished my own Olympic project. It consisted of posting the content of my five (5) Left_Hand_Work books on my website and on Saturday the fifth book went up. This was accomplished, albeit in draft form for the four additional books. Some images need to be added and some text typed for clarity, while the styling also will require further attention, but as a whole it is working as intended.
Due to this project I did not go to Annie’s skating, but will go this coming Saturday as that will be the last time, for now.
I was up early today, did my exercises and then rested some more until about seven am. I wanted to let the bathroom warm up a bit, since I keep it cold on account of the ceiling hole. It has been there since the seventh this instance and has seen - beside a week old oral promise - no action as yet.
Last Friday Thomas and I met for a coffee talk in the afternoon, while on Wednesday Shirley and I met at seven pm in Marda Loop for a coffee and a two hour conversation. This week I plan to visit Sharen again and will probably have lunch with Herman, coffee with John and who knows what else.
