Diary: Coffee new book mail and computer guidance:

~~Coffee with John and a book on my walk back. Unstamped mail and learning Windows 8, while helping Juliet.~~

Yesterday morn I met up with John at ten am for coffee. He was a bit late, preoccupied and left early, but would not discuss the goings on at the fort. He did tell me that his Mom is doing o.k. and staying in touch.

I took the bus down, but walked back with a stop at ‘ShelfLifeBooks’ for a rest and a check on display on the history and religion shelves. And wouldn’t you know, there I found ’s ‘The Story of the Jews’ - 1000bce-1492ce - which is just out, as I’d read its review last week.

I’d always wanted to read this author, but never found the right book, with yesterday’s find I found my match. Last night I finished chapter One, ‘Egypt’ and it holds much promise of what is to come. A demythologised history, bringing many modern discoveries together with a second volume to follow this year.

In the aft I stopped by at Juliet again to help her with her new computer. Her old one used Windos XP, so the switch to Windows 8 with touch screen is unfriendly. However, Juliet is not one for giving up and we are making progress.

She served some dinner with wine again and gave me two beautiful woollen scarves from Pakistan and a ‘bone’ paper knife decorated with carved elephants. Today I will stop by again, because there is urgency in this writing of her life story, which is now over thirteen hundred (13 000) words long. Fortunately I’d made a second copy of the original the day before, because yesterday she did delete the whole doc she had worked on!

Also yesterday, I received Shirley’s card with writings and printed information in the mail, but without the required postage stamp. Who say the rates are going up? Laundry is going again and due in ten minutes.
