Diary: Weekend activities walking encounters and documentaries:

~~Family garage sale, walking and talking my way to the Palliser and two AJE documentaries.~~

The weekend consisted of a visit to the family garage sale, with a purchase from Annie for Holland and a steam kettle. Next was a stop at Memory Express to look at a tablet computer. Asus has a well priced unit, but its reviews are so, so.

On Sunday I visited with friends at the Palliser, which has its 100-year anniversary June 15th, when it opened its doors for business. I walked both ways taking some pictures along the way and having two chats as I went, one with a tour guide and the other with a couple.

I added to the guide’s note worthies, informing him about the old Lindsay railway yard and its bridge. The couple were on a stroll in their new condo related neighbourhood. He informed me that though God was masculine, the devil was female, which did not seem to impress his partner. I told him I was late for an appointment.

In the aft and evening I watched - on AJE - the documentary ‘The White Busses’ about and an other on the recent Financial market crash. The first one made me realise to what extend the Swedes played both sides of the WW2, first favouring Germany and then in 1943 shifting to the Allied side.

The doc on finance closed with the note that no real job growth or GDP increase took place since 2000. All this gain in ‘wealth’ has been due to trading in and speculating with financial products, which produce nuts.

Writings: Murphys affirmations and my writing voice:

~~Learning from Murphy, making affirmations for myself and finding my writer’s voice.~~

I want to write a short note on a late New Thought teacher by the name of , who was a friend of Herman. Murphy wrote many books about healing and the workings of the ‘subconscious mind’ as he perceived it. His books are repetitive in that the theme remains the same.

However, in order to give credit where it’s due, I want to add the following observations. Murphy’s approach was repetitive, mainly because his writing is anecdotal and his stories repeat. But, when I read his various books, back in the 1980-ties, I noted that he listened closely to his clients and also closely inquired about their condition. He then would help them formulate an affirmation fitted to the patient to help him or her overcome the affliction.

From my readings about this process, I learned to apply this method to my self for myself to good effect. We do not really need the authority of an other person to make the affirmations work, as was shown by in the 19th century. I combine this affirmation technique with traditional medicine when needed and this combination works well for me.

It isn’t that the healings don‘t take place, but that people return to their old state.

This reminds me of two remarks. One by Unity teachers back in 1985 at the INTA conference in Calgary at that time. They said to me: “It isn’t that the healings don‘t take place, but that people return to their old state.”

The other remark came from my local Chiropractor at around the same time. He remarked once: “You hang on to your adjustments!” and his reply was no, when I asked “Doesn’t everybody?” It was later that I started to realise that when you can get medical help, you must also support and work on your own health and healing.

Over the weekend I remained engaged with the writing of my essay and made a few notes that help me focus, such as that traditional teachings are internally inconsistent and that we need to deal with that aspect. In addition, I came to the insight for the need to formulate my aim and intent for this proposed essay.

In relation to that latter point, I realised this morning that I really want to tell a personal story and not in the style of a formal essay. The latter does not engage me, but the telling of my own experience does.

So, I’ll have to find my own voice as the that is called in creative writing. But, this can also be applied in non-fiction as I learned from Schama and now Twigger. Also the idea of ‘biography’ intrigues me and I am working on a way to combine that in my undertaking.
