Yesterday’s writing visit with Juliet became costly as I forgot to put her residential parking permit on the dashboard of my car. This resulted in an note of transgression from the enforcer of such rules to the value of 40$$. Juliet and I agreed to share this burden, as both of us forgot about the need for the mentioned display of conformity.
Last night I only watched the first part of the news, turning it of when the report started on the first arrest under the new anti-terrorism law. This law makes thinking differently a crime, regardless of the right to freedom of opinion and expression. Terrorism has been a part of human behaviour, albeit a disruptive one like a new virus.
However, such legislation is ineffective in preventing what it punishes, while it is evidence of a lack of coping ability with what is experienced as a threat. However, it may be an expression of the prevailing attitude in our society, but the majority is not the best test for morality. This is why we have the charter in this country. So, I expect this arrest to be the starting point of a long and costly legal battle.
