I said 'Sharen day', because even last year yet I visited Sharen on a Wednesday afternoon usually. Around this time last year I also took that fine photo of hers, as she looked out through library south window at the Spruce Cliff Extendicare centre.
That day in November it was as if she was preparing to go that way vizualising the road ahead and posing for that departure photo as I clicked away. 'That is where I am fixing to go', she appeared to be saying to me without uttering a sound. She did go early March this year and at times I miss them visits of old.
Earlier this week I recounted that Sharen and I had coffees since the winter of 2003/04, as I would walk over to meet her at the Good Earth on 11th street and 15th Ave. A few years later our venue moved to Phil’s as that was closer and less noisy. There we met until the fall of 2009, when Sharen went to the Bridgeland home until 2011 and then via the NE Schumer Centre to the Spruce Cliff full time care facility, which became her last home on this planet.
Then a friendship ended that had become dear and valuable to the both of us, though it had started almost in hesitation, back then first at the Second Cup on 14th Street and 14th Ave in 2003, late fall.
More than ten years of friendship that started so occasionally, became a fixture and weekly marker in our lives for a decade, sharing jokes, chats, opinions, experiences, laughter and ‘slots‘ - Danish for sips.
I wish her the best and know her to be in peace, busy with many things that need doing.
In the end it became a listening to what Sharen would recall from the various stages of her varied life. I wish her the best and know her to be in peace, busy with many things that need doing.
I’m doing the laundry and it’s time to go, now back at 9:19am and good until ten.
Yesterday I managed two and a half hours of sorting, but I’m keeping too much stuff still, so after the sorting out a throwing out round is called for. In the evening I posted two daily entries and read some news sites. I also had a good snooze in the afternoon and should note that my writings of yesterday went quite well as far as articulating my intent on my Tolerance essay is concerned.
The last laundry load is in the washer and due at around 10:50am. I’m signing off here now and leave the writing to another time.
