, Monday. Sunny, warm and opened windows!

I hope you enjoy reading

Diary: Warm weekend reads and socials:

~~Warm weather is celebrated, I meet with friends and read about Manichaeism.~~

Sun, air and summer’s sounds drift in through the opened windows of my apartment with windows for all my rooms, except the storage! In the meantime in between time, the first load of laundry is in the washer and due in about twenty five minutes.

The weekend I had to myself as John had Calloway Park duty on Saturday. I went to DJ’s for some produce, read part of the weekend Globe and acquired more knowledge about Manichaeism. It turns out that it was absorbed in a modified form into Shi’ism to a significant extend.

I also discovered that the Concise Encyclopaedia of Islam is only available as ‘ramsch’ as they say in Holland which is Yiddish for surplus. I am trying to get my bookstore to order it, but their business model is still stuck in the past, only new books from standard suppliers are on deck, all the rest is in the hole.

He [R.W. Emerson] was a contemporary of P.P. Quimby, who must have read him, both living in New England through the nineteenth century as they did.

Last Friday I picked up socks, under and over pants at Winner’s, where I’d spotted some the day before. The last of the desired socks were mine!

On Sunday I walked both ways to meet with friends - seven all told -at the Palliser, where Herman spoke on the transcendentalist philosopher and Unitarian minister. He was a contemporary of , who must have read him, both living in New England through the nineteenth century as they did.

It is 9:23am, with the second washer load in and due at around 10am. This gives me time for a coffee, but I still need to turn the element on! Done. Today my neighbour should be back from a short holiday, but I still have not located an Armenian eatery, though they are worth a visit I understand.

And I continue at 9:41am, with the coffee and snack at their destination. However, my diary as at its end now and I’ll switch to writings, for which I have two topics lined up this morning.

Writings: An affirmation and Manichaeism:

~~I try out a new daily affirmation and report some findings on Manichaeism.~~

My two topics for this morning relate to Existence Divine and to Manichaeism, the latter of which should be no surprise.

This morning I made a new affirmation cum dedication for myself as a human being within Existence Divine as follows. “Today I dedicate to expressing consciously the revelation of the Existence Divine mystery.”

This is close but not quite it. I may come up with the original formulation, which was a bit more flowing or poetic even, but held the same meaning. Namely, that the knowable of the mystery is to be expressed consciously every day as we live in the realm of humanity.

I may add here too, that each evening I give thanks for the daily experience in the body that enriches my spirit; that is how I see our human relationship with our different aspects of existence.

One is that it lacked sufficient internal cohesion and secondly that the concept and practice of allowing for proviso of one‘s belief, when survival was at stake.

Manichaeism is a religion that flourished, but is no longer extant. [back from last washer load at 10:27am.] However, from my readings, especially about the Shiites in the Encyclopaedia of Islam, it becomes clear that many concepts and teachings of continue to inform many religions and sects in various ways.

What is becoming clear to me from my study is that two aspects of Manichaeism were conducive to it being rejected in the end. One is that it lacked sufficient internal cohesion and secondly that the concept and practice of allowing for proviso of one‘s belief, when survival was at stake. It is also found in Roman Catholicism where a believer is allowed to deny knowledge ‘for reasons of the heart’.

Both these weaknesses, as I see them, are due in part to the nature of Manichaeist teachings. They allowed for the adoption of local saviours under local names to be incorporated within its tradition. This plurality of the various religious concepts made Manichaeism attractive at first, but made it suspect later on, as the reliability of believes held could be questioned.

After lunch and with the last dryer load loaded I’m back again at 11:39am. I could add more observation on the topic of may talk, Manichaeism, but that might be premature. The two observations above are my own and did not surface so far in the literature I’ve read.
