Diary: Fire report and floor scrubbings:

~~Don calls on a fire near my abode. I combine floor and rug cleaning with providing for matters of the mind.~~

Yesterday I started off slowly cruising the internet and lazed around some, until Don phoned me, asking about the early morning fire at 23rd ave and 1st street sw. I’d heard that the sirens had stopped not far away, but not near by. As I walked by the fire site later on not much could be seen from the front, but the fire was quite extensive at the back. Don was concerned I think about my well being since the fire was not far away. Thank you Don.

In the evening I phoned Edward, who had lived in that building. He had seen a life feed early in the morning and even knew the fire had started from a cigarette butt being stuffed or left in a balcony planter. He told me that the last people displaced from the 2013 flood had just moved back in!
That could be enough for a person to go and live some other place.

However, the up shot of Don’s phone call was that I finally started with vacuuming the bathroom and kitchen and then proceeded to scrub and wash the floors. I did not stop here, but put the related rugs in the bathtub for soaking and washing.

After all that activity I made my self some lunch and had my customary snooze, while the rugs soaked and the floors dried. Then came my walk by the fire site, where there were still some trucks and firemen busy getting ready to go.

I continued my walk through Lindsay park to the library, where I read two daily Globes, checking my waiting copy of the Islam Encyclopaedia on the way out. Next I made for ShelfLifeBooks and asked them to try and order a current copy of that encyclopaedia via the internet, since their regular supplier no longer carries it.

Dave, of the now defunct ‘Books on Forth’, used to get them for me, but he was more flexible being in the used book trade. Anyway Will said he’ll try, so I’ll be patient.

On my return home the floors were dry from the wash, but work on the rugs in the bathtub remained. After supper they came out quite clean and are now still suspended in the drying mode, while I compose this daily creation.

Later today my usual visit with Juliet and I’ll take along the library copy of the mentioned encyclopaedia for her to peruse.

Writings: Outline and essay maybe:

~~Talk outline and a notion for an essay on Manichaeism.~~

Last evening I spent some time on making an improved outline for my talk on Manichaeism, as follows:

    ’s Lost Religion.
  1. Introduction - anecdotes.
  2. Overview - region and times.
  3. Who was Mani? - family, community and society. 216 - 276
  4. Mani’s teachings - combining Zoroastrianism, Gnosticism, Buddhism and Christianity. 240 - 1400/ 1700.
  5. What was left and persists today.

Item four (4) takes up the bulk of the content as some major ideas from those various religions have to be presented in a way that explains the enduring appeal of Mani’s teachings. The fascinating aspect is that some of those are still present, albeit disguised, in religions of today.

Since last night, I am becoming aware of an interesting intuition and that is for me to compose an essay relating to this talk on Manichaeism. I did that for my talk ‘Jesus the Man’, but not for any other talk that I can remember. I usually live with such an intuition for a few days in order to test it and if it persists and or grows even, then I’ll commit.
