Diary: Laundry chair restoration Apache and Windows Ten:

~~The big news is the start of my easy chair make over, which is followed by Apache not serving under Windows 10?~~

First washer load due in twenty five minutes! I’ve been busy already and reached the bottom of the big detergent container. That will mean a separate trip to the store on account of the full container’s weight! I may get it at Safeway’s on their discount day February two. You see I do plan ahead in some things!

Last Saturday I went with cushions, easy chair pictures and its measurements down to the Cook family store. This is the first step in getting this chair of mine re-upholstered as a present from Tammy and John for Christmas. Such a generous offer and a much needed one at that. Thanks you guys!

So, at the store Shirley and I picked the pattern and material, which went fairly quickly according to Roy. “My you're fast”, was his comment, but selecting patterns is clearly Shirley’s domain and demands lots of expertise. The sample books to select from are overwhelming to me.

I knew that I did not want a striped pattern again, which eliminated quite a few attractive choices. I did want a mix of lighter colours and a definitive pattern, off-setting the darkish and solid green tinted couch. The chair had a make a statement, but not be a standout. It also had to go with the wooden browns of my furniture. So, I hope the choice will work out. Interestingly, it was the first one that Shirley showed me!
Here I am, back again at 10:08am after a load switch, a coffee and a call with Juliet and the next load switch due in twenty minutes.

On Saturday I tried to get the Apache server to work under the Windows 10 OS, but got the message that it can’t fulfil the request, which was to start Apache. I suspect that I need to switch to administrator privileges, but I’ve forgotten how to do that.

So, I’ll visit the Microsoft store and see whether they have a suggestion. The reference I have are unclear about the account business that Microsoft maintains. It’s 10:17am and time to switch to writings.

Writings: Shouldering our evolution:

~~Recognising our own evolutionary process charges us with the responsibility to apply it to the benefit of humankind.~~

This weekend and Sunday morning in particular I was able to latch on to the idea about a way forward other than the ‘improve’ I mentioned last week. The germ of the idea has surfaced in my awareness before, only to retreat again. This weekend, including this morning this germ of an idea germinates to form a root and shoot. Let me become more clear!

We humans need to realise for ourselves where and what we are at as humanity collectively and individually. Do we understand our present stage of development as conscious, modern, capable and ethical beings and are we acting accordingly?

It looks to me that we are acting from old premises, which aggravate the current problems instead of reducing them. We are not recognising, let alone understanding the predicament we are in, as humanity.
<10:28 laundry time and at 10:50>.

So, my thesis is this:
Do we adequately understand the present state of development and adaptation we are in as humanity in our globalising world?

So, my thesis is this:
Do we adequately understand the present state of development and adaptation we are in as humanity in our globalising world? To which I add the rider, that inadequate understanding results in the continuation of the present destruction, human suffering, loss of culture, which could become detrimental.

And after lunch and stuff now 12:13pm.

I ask this question keeping in mind human development and adaptation - evolution if you like. The handed down traditions that have informed us to this day all regulate behaviour on the basis of right and wrong. In addition each tradition defines and teaches group and related individual identity to which one owes loyalty.

In the past conflicts between such traditions, be they ancient or modern, were mostly resolved with much combat and some negotiation with submission. This process of conflict resolution was quite destructive, as we know from history. We are continuing in this manner today, but the setting in which humankind exists today differs from the past.
Now at 12:36pm, the last dryer load retrieved.

These differences are the large world population, environmental stresses, combat techniques that allow unending attrition and an unwillingness of any one group to submit to another.

However, we do have a few positive signs that are new and which involve a shift from long held pat stands to negotiated verifiable agreements, Iran being one case in point.

The Iranian case shows that it is possible to negotiate across the conflict so to speak. This instead of coercing the other party into submission, as is also attempted in the Middle East, to no effect, but at a high cost. This represents a dead-end process that on a global scale would be detrimental to humankind.

That is the very situation to be avoided and this can be done by changing our attitudes, as the new Iranian agreement demonstrates. It requires the adoption of an attitude and process that sets the goal beyond the current animosities and aims at the mutual benefits.

The benefit for humankind being an overall improvement of living conditions and safety within the community. If some parties think that their domination over the other is more important, then they should spend some time in Monopoly’s goal, which is be submitted to functioning sanctions.

As to the rest of us, we must combine our efforts to resolve our conflicts by releasing held values and identities and seek common ground to benefit the many instead of the few, thus enhancing our human culture on our planet.

All this requires adopting a reference framework and value set that, while leaving room for taught values and customs, recognises that changes are required today to accommodate people with other identities, customs and values.

The aim shifts to benefit for the human community, instead of for the particular. This I see as our next step to take as human in a process we initiate and guide instead of letting the ‘forces of history’ dictate our fate.

Since we are now consciously aware of the process we humans participate in, we must consciously affect it as part of newly discovered responsibility. If we don’t, the will full avoiding of what we are capable of doing can destroy us.
