Diary: Blackstock illuminates Indigenous resilience:

~~Presenter Cindy Blackstock holds us to account on our government’s continuing discriminatory treatment of Canada’s National First citizens.~~

Yesterday late aft and early eve Juliet and I attended the UofA sponsored presentation by Dr. Cindy Blackstock on fnwitnesss.ca which stand for ‘First Nations Witness’. She took the Federal Government to court in a human rights case regarding under funding practices of native health care and … won. This victory was duly reported by my trusty Globe and Mail, which could only let this pass without a stern warning by their Mr. Reguly columnist, who instead should have lauded this much needed outcome.

It is a human lack-of-rights issue that is a black mark on those of humanity who hold power and who are loath to improve the conduct that makes their vulnerable hunger, thirst and suffer.

Dr. Blackstock’s presentation was superb I would say and I have seen many. Well illustrated, informative and addressing the issues without rancour, yet with a firm holding to account the government’s double standard practices detrimental to its own Indigenous citizens. From the press reports I recognise this practice as being world wide by all such governments. It is a human lack-of-rights issue that is a black mark on those of humanity who hold power and who are loath to improve the conduct that makes their vulnerable hunger, thirst and suffer.
