The floor mats of kitchen and bathroom are soaking in the bathtub. This after yesterday’s vacuuming of my apartment and the dusting not to forget! Yes, it is true, the cleaning bug has struck with a vengeance, which is not unknown to me. At any rate, the mats are in the tub and now the floors await their wash turn later today. In my old country my family would say: ‘You might put out the flag’, marking the rarity of this occasion!

This kind of fire moves on, so if you can protect a structure for about half an hour’s worth, the fire will have moved on without having done much damage.
The main news here in Alberta is that the ‘Beast’ fire around Fort McMurray now has moved away from the town into the forests to the North East. The good news is also that about 85% of the town has been spared, but the other parts are burned to the ground, left in ashes and blackened desolation.

This kind of fire moves on, so if you can protect a structure for about half an hour’s worth, the fire will have moved on without having done much damage. The bombers work in coordination with the ground crews, who can douse the smaller fires once the fire wall has moved on. This is kind of my picture of the process, but I have never experienced a forest fire myself.
