Diary: Construction replaces analytics:

Yesterday I managed to write a substantial expansion on my earlier writing titled ‘Old age advantage’ of a few days ago. I knew there was something more to write, but I could not find an angle of approach. This I found, while watching a carpenter across the street doing his tasks. ‘That man is constructing something inside the house’ I thought and as I did, I said to my self ‘I’m jealous of this guy, because of what he does and the purpose he has.’

Then, after a bit of associating I realised that if I wanted to construct something I had to get away from my habit of being analytical so often. Analysis is holding on to a critical attitude and that is a habit of mine.

I realised then and there that I had to do something constructive with my ideas…

I realised then and there that I had to do something constructive with my ideas and that insight prompted me to take up the writing I had planned, but now with the intent to write with construction in mind and mood, I may say.

The results can be read in yesterday’s ‘Writings’ on my website. But, I am not finished with what I started there and will work out some more ideas using my earlier reported ideas on ‘Concept Space’ some months and even years ago.

So far yesterday’s afternoon activities, in the morn I wrote the diary and after that went for a walk passed the Eberhardt Park community gardens taking a few shots with my Windows fone. On the way back I picked up some milk and the Globe at Safeway’s making my way home. Then, time for coffee and some reading, giving myself time to develop an approach to my intended writings, which still felt blocked.

Later today I plan to meet up with Herman for lunch to which we have invited Don to join us. This joined meeting is on account of Don lending us his newly minted ‘Jefferson Bible’ publication and our common, but diverse interests in this topic and man.

John sent me an email yesterday complete with a picture of the finished deck on his patio. It looks good. Well done son!

Writings: Concept space revisited:

~~New ideas emerge from yesterday’s writings relating to concept space, belief frameworks and their adequacy for today.~~

My earlier idea of concept space surfaced last night as I read the printed version of yesterday’s Writings titled “Known thinkers concepts examined.” As I did, penciling corrections and making notes, more ideas came to me about the applicability of concept spaces. This morning too, various aspects of the possible applications kept surfacing into my awareness.

This surfacing is actually a good example of ‘emergence’ as describes that in “Mind and Emergence”. Something that emerges without having a formal causal relation to its background. Something new that comes about, describes loosely the idea of this emergence.

Concept spaces explored:

Synoptically you might say that a belief framework orders the experience of the human being in its daily life. This framework is underlain by a concept space that reduces many, but not all experience to its orthogonal base of concepts that explain the experience phenomenae.

Both the framework - ideology or religion or narrative - and the concept space are formed and shaped in the processes of daily experience over time. This makes them dependent on time, place, people and circumstance, as I have explained earlier. Each such system will only be partly self consistent and complete. This gives rise to conflicts under certain conditions, such as affects from other belief systems that have different value sets, but conflicts can also arise from within the framework.

When conflicts arise we need to ask whether the prevailing concept space needs expansion!

When we have a situation of many and intense conflicts - no need to be specific today - the question must be asked whether the concept space needs to be expanded, added onto with a new base dimension that would be able to explain, analyse and allow for a resolution of the conflicts that the old concept space cannot accommodate without strive.

I suggest that an added teaching should be ‘Tolerance towards the Other-believer among religions’.

Some time ago - last year in some of my talks - I suggested that an added teaching should be ‘Tolerance towards the Other-believer among religions’. Such tolerance is not taught in religions, but neither is it among classes and many nationalities, which all want to assert their own identity.

This global tolerance if you like, is an attitude and value that that must be added to the way we order our social world and activities. It would help us in our approach to conflicts that have been set in the past and are defined by it, but have become antiquated and destructive, preventing us from moving on towards a solution that is less costly in heritage, lives and investments lost.
