Don and I visited Rosebud yesterday, which turned out to be a wonderful event and to my surprise a treat on Don’s part on account of my upcoming birthday! At nine am Don came by to pick me up and off we were to our destination. Driving along highways 72 and 9 we were treated to wide prairie views so typical of this rolling glaciated landscape clad in the green and yellow colours of the growing grains and the blooming canola! It was like driving inside a panorama, Don’s steady hand steering us straight with curves when called for!

Buffet lunch was at eleven am in the historic “Mercantile”, which was followed by the show ’Tent Meeting’ in the Opera House at one thirty pm. The play has a gospel cum blue grass theme, reminiscing the local events at the Wiesenthal Baptist Church in Millet, Alberta, but set in the ‘Dirty Thirties’. It has about fourteen songs, which makes it a musical in a way. The play itself dates back about fifteen years and may be made into a movie yet!
After the show we enjoyed a generous ice cream and made our way home via Standard, where my old and late friend Sharen was born in 1913. As Don’s steady hand guided us into Calgary from the East, we shared many experiences, while taking in all the changes, as neither of us had driven this route for years. We took the diversion through the Chestermere Community coming into Calgary via 17th Ave SE, Forest lawn and eventually 25th Ave SW to take me to my abode. Multitudinal thanks Don for this unexpected and wonderful treat by a good friend.
I have decided to clean out my old Buick today getting it ready to be taken to the wrecker’s tomorrow. It took me a few months to come to this decision, but I’m ready for this now. The public transit works well and costs me little, while the car2go is more expensive, but gives me some extra flexibility when needed.
Shakespeare in the Park tonight conflicts with the Folk Fest this weekend and has been moved to Patrick’s Island at 9:30pm, which is too late. So, Shirley and I will go a week later.
Car clean up from 9 to 9:40am, then coffee.
