The last of the ‘twenty-days’ for August has arrived; two more and we are at August’s precipice and the last full month of summer, of which there are only two. As kids in our family of six the 31st was departure day from the Noordwijk’s seaside and the return to our home in Zeist.
Always a bit of a rueful event, but we knew that a winter in Noordwijk was not something we would prefer over one in our home town. As kids too, we learned to say goodbye to the treasured experience and move on to face the more disciplined part of life.
Even in retirement, I apply these changes in rhythm that Sundays and summer holidays offer in the routine of the day. They are markers telling us that time moves on, as do our days of seasonal celebrations and not least as a birthday does, like the one I’ve just celebrated! All markers between birth into and departure from life in the body.
We had a wide ranging conversation touching even on G.I.Gurdjieff, a searcher and teacher from my early adult explorations.
Last Saturday morning I had my last birthday celebration consisting of breakfast at the Purple Perk at the invitation of Julie, the daughter of my friend Ron who now lives in Courtenay, BC. We had a wide ranging conversation touching even on G.I.Gurdjieff, a searcher and teacher from my early adult explorations. Julie mentioned she had just visited her Dad and that he and Nancy are enjoying their newly found ’island lifestyle’!
On Sunday I joined my friends at the Palliser, where Hanna took a turn at the ‘podium’, speaking on ‘Prosperity Now’, an adaptation of Catherine Ponder’s book on this topic. I found Hanna’s presentation inspiring and well delivered; she like me, has gained confidence and poise presenting this type of subject. It is so different from teaching based on the text book material as both of us have been used to.
Over the weekend I finalised the postings of my last two presentations titled “Adding to Old Teachings 1 & 2” and added notes for my up coming presentation on November 13. I may title this talk “Destiny Humanity” emphasizing that being human in the totality of existence as we know it, is at least as important as anything else we have discovered or will still do.
