Diary: Essay work and visits:

~~I make a start with structuring my message essay ideas and relate about weather and social events.~~

N.B: The snow is fine for lack of moisture in this rain shadow region of the Rockies. This cold over the last few days is well below the average and will last until Thursday. And … next week we will see plus six degrees with sun; sometimes weather forecasts are like ‘manna by heaven’!

The last number of days I have been busy with the ‘My Message’ essay including yesterday, Sunday that is.

The last number of days I have been busy with the ‘My Message’ essay including yesterday, Sunday that is. I even formulated a thesis statement for it last night; see below.

Yesterday I walked to our Palliser to meet with Herman and friends, braving snow and cold. Fortunately there was no wind, but even with my winter coat and ‘Ice-sheep’ wool shawl from Iceland, I was just warm enough for this half our walk. Jack gave me a ride back home and we will meet for our monthly coffee and chat at 12:30pm today … inside.

My Epson XP-410 printer refuses to print cyan even with a full cartridge and several head cleanings. I suspect that this will be the end of its lifetime, which is now at least five years with lots of printing over time. I may just by the same printer type again instead of going for a fancier model, this way I can keep using the same cartridges.

Writings: Thesis and global assessment:

~~A possible thesis statement for my essay is followed by a definition of the difference between the old international crisis and today’s global ones.~~

Last night’s preliminary thesis statement for the essay ‘My Message’ is as follows:
To understand our global situation of today is a prerequisite to solving the current problems that we encounter. Such understanding is gained from tracing into our past our common heritage to a common place of origin. And then from this base follow our diverse development as humans to gain an understanding of today’s dilemma between identity preserved and diversity accommodated.
End of thesis statement.

Problem statement:

I have followed international political developments since the time of the post WW2, when the ‘Exodus’ ship that carried Jewish children around West Europe shores to end up at Cyprus, back in ca 1946. Many crisis followed such as Suez, the Berlin wall, Formosa cum Taiwan, to name a few. These crisis were all international in nature in that they were localised involving regional players, by proxy or directly.

Addressing our world wide connected problems with techniques, attitudes and perspectives from the now old post WW2 ‘international’ situations is a strategy of failure at best.

Today our crisis and problems are global in reach, because there are now more players and though not equal, many have matured as players on the global stage. This, combined with our planet wide interconnectedness results in the local issues taking on global significance. We live in this interconnected world society having become neighbours, affecting and getting to know each other.

Addressing our world wide connected problems with techniques, attitudes and perspectives from the now old post WW2 ‘international’ situations is a strategy of failure at best and one for disaster more likely. Examples of societies - cum empires - having come and gone are many. This shows that there is no guarantee for our global society to come to a working solution.

We must learn to balance our assertiveness with the need to make room for the other, …

So far so good for today, but here are many serious challenges facing us, which will require fresh ideas, shifts in attitudes, changes in values and respect of the other. We must learn to balance our assertiveness with the need to make room for the other, if we are to survive and live together on this our home planet as the only promised land we have access to.
