Diary: Coffees visits barber and subscriptions:

~~Joy and I meet away from the store till and I consider subscribing to the Globe. Will my barber return I wonder and various social meets.~~

Yesterday I met with Joy as Savour’s. We decided to have a proper sit down conversation instead of those stand-up chats at the grocery store till. This worked well, which did not surprise me as we always have topics to talk about. Joy visited my old country a number of time as she travels quite often and lived in Germany. We both visited new Berlin, I in 1999 and Joy a few years ago.

I am leaning towards subscribing to the Globe and Mail, as I buy it almost every day, which is quite expensive at 17$$ per week and that still does not give me access to all the website articles. Urging me in this direction is that Trouw has drastically changed its website structure forcing me to browse much longer, since the overview of offered titles I gone.

Today I may have a walk down to my barber to see if he is back on his station. I have tried for two weeks without luck, so if he is not there today, I will try the new neighbourhood ‘Salon’ which now offers men’s cuts besides the lady coifs. Business is slow I guess.

No visit with Juliet, but we did meet on Monday and we will on Friday. Tomorrow lunch with Herman and coffee with John some time, yet to be fixed.

Writings: Human diversity of identity addressed:

~~I propose Existence Divine and an extended human narrative as a means of accommodating our modern global diversity of identities.~~

Humans have composed many narratives cum religions, to explain existence as they experienced it ever since we were capable of doing so. Each defining the local world of experience, the identity of community and the place of the individual within it. With changing times and requirements these narratives changed as did the understanding of the mystery of the unexplained.

We are struggling with the conflicting demands for increasing social diversity and the need to maintain our group identity.

This perspective is also applicable to our present world situation, but with the added challenge that our differing narratives and identities have become those of our neighbours. This closeness often results in mutual misunderstandings, accusations and open conflicts, in spite of the many instances of mutual acceptance and tolerance.

We are struggling with the conflicting demands for increasing social diversity and the need to maintain our group identity. This new situation for humankind on our planet requires new concepts and an inclusive narrative.

Based on my experiences and studies, I suggest here that my earlier mentioned idea of ‘Existence Divine’, when combined with an extended shared narrative for humankind, offers a framework that accommodates our human diversity of identities and as well, leave room and make place for the mystery of the unexplained as taught in humanity’s handed down traditions.
