Diary: Canada Day and so much more:

~~Canada Day had fine weather in Calgary, a friend passes from our group and I report on my various activities.~~

Last Friday afternoon and Saturday morning I spent a number of hours at Olympic Plaza celebrating Canada Day at that venue. In particular the kids were fun to watch, which were present in great numbers all decked out in various ways with hats, shirts and flags, running around from one activity to the next. I showed off my new Canada 150 T-shirt emblazoned with the colourful 150 Maple Leaf design.

I took quite a few pictures including some of the dressed up youths who were participating in a three day long Japanese themed fantasy game characters convention called ’Otafest’, at the Telus Centre.

This past Sunday we learned that our friend Ed had passed in the preceding week. Though we knew of his health problems, the fact of his passing is a shock all the same. He will be much missed for his good humoured nature and conversation. The memorial will be this coming Saturday.

Yesterday I visited Ken, my former dentist, who is now in rehabilitation after a stroke that has left him without comprehensible speech expression. However, yesterday our exchange was improved over my last visit about one month ago. I’ll take some pictures the next time to help us concentrate on a subject.

Last Monday Jack and I had our monthly coffee chat spending most of out time exploring ideas for his up coming talk for our Sunday group aka the CLEC. On Tuesday morning I visited Rene for a coffee at his home just east of Inglewood across from the Japanese United church. He has a nice garden there with quite a few unusual plants such as a ‘fern peony’. Rene comes to our CLE-center once in a while, but has a limited life due to a medical condition.

I also did my Safeway monthly shopping on Tuesday, which kept me engaged while spending my money, now over one hundred $$ most of the time; for the month that is, but does not include the occasional trips for milk, bread and produce.

Wednesday morning John and I had a coffee, but we still have to do our Father’s day beer, so I better text him in the next little while; coming Friday maybe a good day for that, as it will be ‘Stampede Parade’ day! It is 9:18am and I want to call my sister Els before it gets later. Els did not answer, but I sent a message to John for that beer meet.
