Diary: Learning while aging:

~~Observations and illustrations on the process of aging as I experience this placing it in my personal experience framework.~~

Life at eighty and one (81) calls for adjusting your habits from what you used to do but no longer can are able, to what you can do, but now differently. For example I have had some difficulty walking for some weeks, but while persisting I made my walks shorter and added breaks.

Yesterday walking around my dwelling place became difficult as well, so I got my cane from its resting place. I use it opposite to the left leg, which causes the discomfort. This helped. I also thought of going to my MD this morning, or my physio man Tim, but held off on that for now.

I felt is was too early, as I was not sure what to tell either as to how and what exactly caused the pain, which is dull but persistent. So, going about my ways this morning I discovered that leaning forward with the upper torso is what causes the aggravation in my hips. This is different from the old sciatica problem that I used to have, but felt very similar at first. Now I can more accurately tell the medical person what pose and motion causes the pain. I was leery of the wrong diagnosis that would lean towards the old problem; this one is different.

Aging feels a bit like growing up, but then in reverse :-)! Backing up is hard to do!

Secondly, now knowing which pose and motion causes the pain I adjusted my plan from cancelling my intended laundry to just doing one load that did need doing. If this one goes well then maybe I do a second load later, instead of doing all three in a row. So, I probe what I can do by adjusting my established habits to fit my reduced capabilities. It feels a bit like growing up, but then in reverse :-)! Backing up is hard to do!

This is an other example of making adjustments for my body being older and losing some of its life long capabilities. This is also an opportunity to be thankful for all that I could do ever since being a teener; seventy years in my case. No human made product has a warranty that is anywhere near that long, nor would capitalist economics even want it! As an example of this I read years ago about razor blades that could be made to last a human life time, but that no company wanted to market!
At 9:41am, time for that one load to hit the drier! Done at 9:52am which is time for a coffee; and now 10:24am with editing and time for the drier load to retrieve!
