Diary: Weeks activities:

~~I relate my activities of this week, some of which kept me away from this keyboard!~~

My last entry was on the 13th this instance, but I have good reasons for this hiatus. This past Monday I had breakfast with my old colleagues. To our surprise Bernard Piche made his first appearance. He is my old co-worker in Photogrammetry Technology at SAIT from 1982 when I asked him to join our staff. He still teaches part time, but is two years from the 65 mark; I retired for good in 1999 at age 63. Sadly John M. let us know that he will not join us for some time on account of recurring prostrate treatment. Our total attendance this time was eight.

Tuesday morning I was late and had to rush to meet Rene for coffee at ten am. He was in full cross dress mode, wearing the hat I bought him a few weeks ago for helping me with books. He give me a ride home in the Jaguar of his sibling sister. I had never had a ride in such a car and it beat that of my old Buick LeSabre Limited!

Wednesday morning John phoned for an early coffee and then at nine am I had a phone appointment with Jeltsje. She is my sister Els her closest friend and we talked for an hour and a half. Much was relating to my sister’s condition; Jeltsje said it now barely compares to when I saw Els in early August. But, Jeltsje and I also share much about life, religion and beliefs, so there is no shortage of topics to keep us talking.

The Highlanders were the regiment that lead the battle and their pipers, drummers and reservist of today gave us a fine spectacle at the Calgary Armoury

Last night I attended a commemorative service of the WW2 battle for the Walcheren estuary in the fall of 1944. The Highlanders were the regiment that lead the battle and their pipers, drummers and reservist of today gave us a fine spectacle at the Calgary Armoury. Irene Bakker, the Dutch consul gave a short talk and after the ceremonies we retired to the officer’s bar for a drink. Irene was so kind to give me a ride home as she lives up at Rideau Hill. Also present was Keith and his cousin I presume, who helped him with his wheel chair.

And that brings me to today’s lunch with Herman on the agenda, to be followed with some writing and preparation for my talk on November 19. That is now about three weeks away and means I have to start focussing on my topic ‘Some Wisdoms of my Own’!

Yesterday I mentioned this talk to Jeltsje - her birthday is on the 17th - with the results that I had to explain one such wisdom to her. This ensued in a long discussion, about beliefs gained, lost and changed. I also shared my current experience to revisit those early teachings, ceremonies and prayers even.

Tomorrow SAIT has open house and I have a notion to stop by there as the weather looks good. I will attempt to see the digital stereo plotters that are located in NK-116 as Bernard told me last Monday. May be I’ll get lucky.
