Today, five hundred (500) years ago, the German monk Martin Luther nailed his parchment with ninety-five (95) thesis onto the Front doors of the chapel in Wittenberg, Saxony state. This act became the rallying point and event around which the long brewing European reform movements coalesced. They formed a wave of religious renewal, reformulation and strive relating to identities, in the middle of the Renaissance and the age of planet wide discoveries of continents and their threatening human cultures.
The handed down political and cultural orders of the sixteenth century are now being restructured into an integrated planet wide human society.
A momentous time no doubt, which prompts me to think that our world today also experiences a time of restructuring, namely that of the familiar twentieth century’s planet wide configurations. The reporting of the current disruptive events are mostly framed in a local and temporary setting, which will soon return to normal.
What is not much written about is the notion that we are at the start of not the middle, of a complete realignment of global relations, order of powers and cultures. The handed down political and cultural orders of the sixteenth century are now being restructured into an integrated planet wide human society. In that setting our diverse human identities vye for a place of recognition and expression.
Taking the long term reference allows for effective action to guide the unavoidable change processes.
This is a long term process that we would do well to recognise. That gives us the perspective required for a proper understanding of the current social processes in play. Taking the long term reference allows for effective action to guide the unavoidable change processes. Not recognising the need to accommodate these natural realignments result in waste, loss, death, destruction and much suffering. Why not spend the effort to resist change, instead on guiding the unavoidable to our mutual benefit?
