Diary: Year end gathering and new year initiative:

~~The activities of 2018 last weeks are summarised and signs of a new initiative are noted as I search for ways to tell my story.~~

No entries since December 17, but no lack of activities and besides, the first laundry load of the new year is due for the dryer at 10am. A quick catch-up on last month’s under reported days.

Some days later, John told me he was taking a job with Amazon’s computer cloud service. He had not mentioned anything to me leading up to this, so I was much surprised and pleased for him. This will be a far more challenging job including much travel. I am a bit sad as our weekly coffees at the Perk now have come to an end, but it was a two year unexpected pleasant interlude.

I asked Annie to give me a hand with making tea and snacks, which she did very efficiently.

On the 24th I attended the 11pm Christmas Eve service at Knox meeting Shirley there. Last year I was alone and it was pleasant to have her company again. The service was well attended, though the choir has become quite small, but the members sang undiminished supplemented with Foothill Brass’ horns and trumpets, as well as Knox’ fine organ.

Christmas afternoon and evening I spent with the Cook family gathering for food and company. This time there were about halve a dozen little one’s which made for lots of entertainment and business. I ended up with a ‘Labyrinth’ balancing ball game, which I can play at home. This has good potential.

On Boxing day John, Tammy and Annie came over to my place for a short stop and gift exchange. I asked Annie to give me a hand with making tea and snacks, which she did very efficiently. Thanks Grand-daughter! She also had selected a beautiful quill embroidered card. This quill tradition has an pedigree from ancient Egypt. Impressive!
10am laundry switch, then coffee break and now 10:24am.

My philosophy is that as a kid you learned to acquire new skills, whereas at old age you learn to adapt to new limitations.

On Thursday the 27th Don and I met at Chinook for a coffee and a social. Like me, Don spent his Christmas dinner and celebration at his son’s in-laws. Over our coffee we related storeys about some friends, family and aging as we are close to mid eighty.

You need to develop a philosophy about aging, because there are lessons to be learned here. Mine is that as a kid you learned to acquire new skills, whereas at old age you learn to adapt to new limitations. This teaches me to appreciate all I was able to do just a few years ago! Every morning “I give thanks to my body for all the experiences it affords me, enriching my spirit by means of my soul.”

On the 30th I attended the Sunday service at Knox as we did not meet at the Palliser for Life Enrichment as Herman took a few weeks off. Well deserved for him and Denise. The Knox service was sparsely attended compared to the Christmas eve service.

I have this imperative in me saying: ‘Don’t hesitate! Proclaim your message! It’s important!’

New year’s Eve I spent at home and watched the fire works emanating from the Calgary tower, which I can do from my kitchen window. I followed this up with an hour of ‘Air Farce’ on CBC, which was hilarious entertainment.
The first I spent contemplating my new urge to compose a story about my message which is religious and philosophical in nature. I have this imperative in me saying: ‘Don’t hesitate! Proclaim your message! It’s important!’ So, I am getting acquainted with You-tube, Pod-casting and story book literature since January 1 and over the last few days.
This new initiative makes me recall how I started to prepare for my website now ten years ago. My web work has become less important to me in the past year, while this ‘Telling my Story’ has become energised!

Yesterday I attended the Knox midweek noon service and then went to the Central Library where I pick up some more books on the above mentioned topics. I realise from my exploring them, that I do need to find a story line that strings my different insights, study outcomes and experiences together and for this I need some advice from the mentioned sources. I hope I can pull this off. I tell myself to keep it simple, KIS that is and SAS as in Simple And Short.
<10:57am, time for load switch and close at 11:38am.
